Makeovers
Combining multiple plastic surgery procedures has received significant attention in the media. These shows seem biased and largely present the good side to combined surgery. Surgical risks are increased with each additional procedure; therefore, patients need to be carefully selected.
Patient selection is always the key to obtaining good results. This is true for any surgery, but this selection process is even more critical for "Body Makeovers". The ideal patient is healthy, active, and has realistic expectations. Health risks such as high blood pressure, smoking, obesity and diabetes need to be minimized to allow proper healing.
A thorough consultation needs to be done to understand the patient's goals and assess overall health. A careful examination of bone, muscle, and soft tissue needs to be done with the patient's goals in mind.
After this evaluation, the combined surgical/non-surgical procedures can be selected for the "Body Makeover". Most "Body Makeovers" can be done as an outpatient when patients and combined procedures are carefully selected and there is close follow-up.
The total surgical time and the procedures selected helps determine whether the "Body Makeover" can be done in an accredited office surgery facility or an outpatient facility.
Some examples of procedures that can be combined include; facelift, eyelid and brow
surgery; breast augmentation and tummy tuck; and liposuction and breast surgery.
No matter which procedures are combined, patients need to be evaluated by a board certified plastic surgeon that is experienced with "Body Makeover"; or combined procedures. |
